SUMMARY:Event: Annual Burnt Mountain Winter Rendezvous 2024
DESCRIPTION:Event: Annual Burnt Mountain Winter Rendezvous 2024\nBurnt Mtn Winter Rendezvous 2024\nWeather permitting starting when you get there\, 9:00-ish\, let’s say. We are having a “workday” on range B. Our regular shooting range. This will entail working on our guns\, our friendships\, our shoot program for 2025\, where we are with PCSC\, finances for TRBPS and the list goes on. \nThink social shoot on a Saturday so everyone who works has a chance for input. Attendance is not mandatory. It is meant to be a fun\, relaxing day to discuss where we are as a charter club. Even brewery at noon is part of the agenda. \nThis is all weather permitting and we will set up like a regular shoot. Flags\, our gear\, cardboard\, paint\, staplers\, steel\, targets etc. But no scoring other than harassing each other. Heck we might try to come up with a novelty challenge like a dual\, use the rattle box\, new knife and hawk throw backboard. Who knows what the mind will come up with. But it all for fun and celebration. \nSo\, this is a relaxing day to shoot and brainstorm. We are in great shape and getting better and stronger as a club within a club. We will call this our  Burnt Mountain Winter Rondy. \nMEMBERS: Remember that we will have a Trade Blanket at all monthly meets starting in 2024. Bring any items you would like to sell\, trade or barter. The items can be anything – Old\, New\, Blades\, Period Clothing\, and all manner of supplies.

SUMMARY:Monthly Meet - April 27th\, 2024 - Open House Gathering of Friends & Family with Food
DESCRIPTION:As many have seen of late\, we have been making some incredible improvements on our range for our shooter comforts\, guests\, scorers\, RSO’s and anyone else that wants to use the range. Our goal is to be 99% done with our ‘Phase One’ project – shall we call it – by our next shoot. So our shoot will be expanded to an open house for all our shooters\, family and friends to explore the range and enjoy its amenities on Saturday\, April 27\, 2024 starting about 8:30am\, as well as shoot. This continues our philosophy of fellowship\, friendship and family for all here at TRBPS. \nGrills have been installed for cooking and several members have volunteered to cook for all. TRBPS supplies the food\, at no cost to our attendees. We are having our trade blanket with lots of goodies every month that folks like to browse and buy from. And if you would like to\, bring something for the trade blanket – for sale\, trade or barter. \n(DEFERRED TO MAY EVENT) — We are having a special VIP guest who will be bringing over some special firearms\, and maybe some other items\, for us to purchase from our growing trade blanket\, and to meet us all and to see what TRBPS is all about. This is an open house to celebrate our fellowship\, enjoy our improved range setup to start our shooting season. —  \nWe will be shooting for score\, but also demonstrating for our friends and family members if they would like to experience shooting our rifles. As we will most likely be going a bit longer with the food and fellowship\, we will be adding a pistol match. Single shot flint or percussion. \nWe are having two shooting categories/classifications for our rifle match: “Offhand” – as it is known – and “Supported” for fairness. We do not want to exclude anyone who wants to shoot with us but we will not compete against centerfire or scopes to be fair. The “Supported” classification uses: bench rest\, shooting sticks\, kneeling\, sitting\, prone\, et al shooting group. \nThere will be two shooting relays\, 10 shots each\, patch and roundball\, any caliber in these two shooting classifications: “Offhand” and “Supported”. The classifications will not compete against each other for prizes\, just bragging rights. \nFirst Relay:\n10 shots at 50 yards\, steel and other targets of various sizes simple hit or miss. \nSecond Relay:\n10 shots at 25 yards\, NMLRA six bull targets\, two shots each target (the top left target is for practice). Heck\, may have to change this one up and go smaller. \nScores will be added together for placement within your appropriate shooting category: “Offhand” or “Supported” (bench-rest\, shooting sticks etc). First shot determines your scoring category. No changing your mind after first shot. So pick either “Supported” or “Offhand”. \nOur Third Relay:\nWill be a pistol match independent of the rifle match. Participation is voluntary if you have a pistol and want to shoot it for score. \nSo\, the shooting safety talk will start at 9:00am. Our goal is done by 1:00pm so we can all enjoy time with our families this weekend or maybe a nice sit-down lunch provided by TRBPS. Guests and shooters under 18 are always no charge. This is for shooters only. \nSo total of 20 shots for score – plus any practice shots you may want to take – patch and roundball excluding the pistol match. \nMEMBERS: Remember that we will have a Trade Blanket at all monthly meets starting in 2024. SUMMARY:Monthly Meet - Over the Log Shoot - February 24th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Over the Log or Chunk Gun Shoot\nChunk Gun shooters\nSaturday\, Feb 24th\, the Talking Rock BPShooters are hosting our match at the PCSC complex and is the first for 2024. First range on the right when you come through the gate. Folks been working hard over the winter on range improvements and upgrades for all your shooting comforts. Come by and check ’em out. \nIt is called an over the log or chunk gun match. It is a one of a kind match with unique scoring and format. We decided on this format and type of match as many of our group shoot the Alvin York match in Pall Mall TN\, north west of Knoxville which occurs in March every year. This allows for practice and checking equipment before they compete against 120 or 130 shooters from throughout the midwest. It is a great first match as it is not a lot of shots and plenty of time to analyze your hits and talk to your fellow shooters. You literally change your target after each shot so you can see what is going on. No spotting scopes needed here for this one! \nFor those of you who do not like to get up and down from the ground\, we will have two classifications\, prone and bench. You do not have to have any special equipment like a “chunk gun”. No special clothing although many wear their authentic blue Alvin York overalls. See the attached picture for clothing optional dress. It is how the guns evolved and many shoot what they brung so to speak. So basically any gun\, any sights\, any caliber and shoot with us. So if you have a new rifle\, new load\, new anything and want to test it out\, great match for that. Reason is you do not have to worry about sighting in your rifle\, you bring the bullseye to where you are shooting. Very unique for sure and tough to describe. Just hit the paper somewhere in a group. Remember to bring your favorite 50 yard sight in target for your warmup practice shots. \nMEMBERS: Remember that we will have a Trade Blanket at all monthly meets starting in 2024. Bring any items you would like to sell\, trade or barter. The items can be anything – Old\, New\, Blades\, Period Clothing\, and all manner of supplies. \nGuests are always welcome who just want to watch\, learn and meet folks.  Bring a chair and we got two picnic tables to sit at as well. \nParticipation Fee: If you are …\nMember of both TRBPS and PCSC: $5\nMember of TRBPS and not PCSC: $10\nMember of PCSC and not TRBPS: $15\nMember of neither: $20

SUMMARY:Event: Annual Burnt Mountain Winter Rendezvous 2023
DESCRIPTION:Annual Burnt Mountain Winter Rendezvous & Member Shoot for 2023\n \nMembers of TRBPS and of PCSC are welcome to join us on Range B (Primitive Range) for a casual\, no points shoot for fun and to talk about TRBPS\, where we are\, what we plan on for 2024\, what we can do different. An informal member meeting with fun shooting thrown in. \nOn 12/16\, weather permitting\, we are having a “work day” on range B.  Our regular shooting range.  This will entail working on our guns\, our friendships\, our shoot program for 2024\, where we are with PCSC\, finances for TRBPS and the list goes on. \n\nSo if you are a member of TRBPS you should help make a decision or two and know where we are.  So that is the invite list. Think social shoot on a Saturday so everyone who works has a chance for input.  Attendance is not any where close to mandatory.  It is meant to be a fun\, relaxing day and discuss where we are as a charter club.  Even brewery at noon is part of the agenda and maybe a snack or two if we can get a fire going.\n\n\nThis is all weather permitting and we will set up like a regular shoot.  Flags\, our gear\, cardboard\, paint\, staplers\, steel\, targets etc.  But no scoring other than harassing each other.  Heck we might try to come up with a novelty challenge like a dual\, use the rattle box.  Who knows what the mind will come up with.  But it is all for fun and celebration.\n\nSo this is a relaxing day to shoot and brainstorm.  We are in great shape and getting better and stronger as a club within a club.  So we call this our Burnt Mountain Rondy. Come on over.  This is a family event so bring bring your family to meet and greet as well as shoot.\n\nTake care all and see you on the 16th for our Burnt Mountain Rendezvous.  This is all subject to the range remodel timing of course.  Reply if you have questions.

SUMMARY:Event: Monthly Meet - October 2023 - Hangers\, Swingers & Paper too
DESCRIPTION:Hangers\, Swingers & Paper too \nWe will be shooting two relays\, 10 shots each (20 total shots)\, patch and roundball\, any caliber in these two shooting classifications. The classifications will not compete against each other for prizes. \nFirst Relay:\n10 shots at 50 yards. we will be shooting steel hangers and swingers. So we need to aim a lot smaller and miss smaller even more as they are a long ways away now this late in the shooting season. \nSecond Relay:\n10 shots at 25 yards\, a qualifying paper target for hit or miss 10 points each shot. It is a tough bugger of a target so be ready to aim small miss small just like when you all were younger as all the targets are not the same. \nBoth relays will be added together for placement within your appropriate shooting category off hand or bench-rest for ranking of results. \nFirst shot determines your scoring category. No changing your mind after first shot. So pick either offhand or bench.

SUMMARY:Event: Monthly Meet - September 2023
DESCRIPTION:We will be shooting two relays\, 10 shots each\, patch and roundball\, any caliber in these two shooting classifications off hand and bench for rifles and pistol this month. The classifications will not compete against each other for prizes\, just bragging rights. We will have our optional category for handguns as well. \nFirst Relay:\n10 shots at 50 yards\, we will be shooting two big bullseye targets. We need to aim a lot smaller and miss smaller even more five shots each bull. Everyone shoots rifles here. \nSecond Relay:\n10 shots at 25 yards\, small hunting target squirrels for points. It is a tough little bugger of a target so be ready to aim small miss small. Here is where it gets a bit different. If you use a rifle\, 25 yard target. But you may shoot a pistol in its place and the target will be placed at 15 to 18 yards. Some folks like to shoot them tree rats with a pistol! It is your choice to shoot either rifle or pistol. Keep in mind this target has been donated and picked out by Bobby W. \nBoth relays will be added together for placement within your appropriate shooting category off hand or bench rest for ranking of results. Now this may turn in to a four category shoot depending on how many we got with pistols and rifles. But please always remember\, it is not about the placement\, it is about the other prizes\, friendship and fellowship. Challenge yourself not others. \nFirst shot determines your scoring category. No changing your mind after first shot. So pick either offhand or bench. Bring a pistol and a rifle if ya got em. We want to make sure you get some practice in cleaning your guns after the shoot. Double the work\, double the pleasure is what we say.

SUMMARY:Event: Monthly Meet - August 2023 - 3 Relay Match
DESCRIPTION:Late summer is here\, folks are trying to stay cool and out of the heat. Watching their gardens and flowers wilt in the sun\, drinking their sweet tea on their porches with their fans blowing as we send the kiddos back to school. So we are all kinda looking forward to fall\, leaves a changing\, garden harvesting\, canning the veggies\, making the jams and jellies and just getting a bit cooler out. Time to get off the porch\, dust off the rifles and see about getting ready for the fall shooting season. \nSo\, rain or shine\, we will be starting the Saturday\, August 26th shoot with shooters registration\, set up and sign in at 8:30am and start the course of fire description and safety briefing with the goal of starting the shoot by 9:00am. \nWe are having two shooting categories\, “off-hand” and “supported” to compete in classifications for fairness. We do not want to exclude anyone who wants to shoot with us but we will not compete against centerfire or scopes to be fair for example. “Supported” means that you can use the bench rest\, shooting sticks\, kneeling\, sitting\, prone or any method of support. \nWe will be shooting three (3) relays this month\, two (2) with 10 shots each\, patch and roundball\, any caliber in these two shooting classifications off hand and supported for score. The classifications will not compete against each other for prizes\, just bragging rights. \nThe third relay will be a surprise team match with number of shots determined by how good your teammates shoot! \nFirst Relay for individual score – Paper Target:\n10 shots at 50 yards\, as we have shot a lot of steel as of late and folks like some variety at some distance. So by popular demand or is it just demand? It will be a paper target for score. It will be the three bull target. One bull target for practice\, the remaining two – five shots each for score. \nSecond Relay for individual score – Paper Target:\n10 shots at 25 yards\, paper as well for score. Two bullseye target – five shots each for score. \nThird Relay team score:\nSurprise team competition. Teams to be determined based on number of shooters that day. Number of shots based on how good your team shoots but look for two minimum\, maybe three. Surprise course of fire as well. NO you are not shooting blindfolded with your teammates guiding you to shoot. \nBoth relays will be added together for placement within your appropriate shooting category off hand or supported (bench-rest\, shooting sticks etc) as always. This is for your personal bragging rights. The team relay will be for team prizes and excluded from the scoring of the first two relays. \nFirst shot determines your scoring category. No changing your mind after first shot. So pick either bench or offhand. \nSo shooting safety talk start time: 9:00am\, goal is done by noon so we can all enjoy time with our families\, get back out of the heat or get those weekend chores done. \n20 shots total for score and some more for your team\,\nPatch and roundball.

DESCRIPTION:Ringing the Bell and Novelty Shoot \nSaturday\, April 22nd\, 2023 will start the check in process at 8:30am with the goal of starting the safety brief at 9:00am and course of fire shortly there after. \nWe will be having our normal two shooting categories as that is what our shooters want:\n\nOff-hand\nSupported\n\nSupported is using the bench; standing using support of any kind; sitting; prone; kneeling  etc.\n\nYou’ll be shooting plain ole roundball and patch\, flint or percussion\, rifle or smoothbore does not matter.  Bring your gun and a mind to enjoy the day.\n\nWe will be shooting 10 shots\, 50 yards\, steel with a new steel target to create some more variables and challenge in scoring along with several of our other new steel targets.\n\nWe will also be shooting 10 shots at novelty targets\, 25 yards.  We are still working out the kinks on the snuffing out the candle.  You know fire risk and all plus windy day you cannot have mother nature assist in your scoring.  So this part will be fun with very little cruelty involved.\n\nGuests are always welcome who just want to watch\, learn and meet folks.

SUMMARY:Youth History Shoot
DESCRIPTION:Teaching youth to safely enjoy firearms is an American tradition\nYouth Shoot – Historical overview. \nThe purpose of the Youth Historical Shoot is to provide the historical significance of the various firearms one could expect to find between 1774 and 1865. \nThere will be a basic safety lecture on procedure to be expected during the shoot. The mechanics of the various firearms – flintlock\, percussion (cap-lock) and other firing ignition systems will be explained\, as will the following: \n\nInstruction/commands given by the instructors will be followed as given.\nThere will be ONE on ONE coach shooter on each shooting position/bench – no freehand shooting allowed.\nStudents may observe the loading process but will refrain from loading any firearm themselves. Subject to supervised instructions.\nMisfires will be handled by the instructor.\nHang fires are to be expected.\nProtective Eyewear and Hearing Protection are mandatory.\nObservers/photographers will always remain behind the SAFETY LOADING BENCH.\nNo calling out of names of shooters or disturbance of any other kind to distract their focus on the shooting/discharge of firearms will be permitted.\n\nAmerican Heritage Girls learning the history of ancient arms\nSince the purpose of the shoot is for historical reference and primarily for the EXPERIENCE of the youth – the established rules for formal or informal competition do not apply. The youth will simply take a seated position at a bench\, a charged firearm placed in the correct sitting position will be placed with the shooter. A sight picture having been found the trigger pulled and the firearm discharged. A cold line may be called for closer examination of unloaded firearms with questions and answers provided by the instructors. \nThe Talking Rock Black Powder Shooters

SUMMARY:Event: Monthly Meet - Over The Log - Chunk Gun Shoot
DESCRIPTION:Chunk Gun Event \n \nThis is a unique event as the firearms traditionally used are quite unique. The “Chunk Guns” can weigh between 30 to 60 lbs. So\, the shooting format or posture is to lie “prone”. But\, if you’re more comfortable shooting yours benched\, that’s fine too. To participate\, you may bring any muzzle-loading rifle you wish – does not have to weigh a ton. \nTHE PARTICULARS:\nFor those of you who do not like to get up and down from the ground\, we will have two classifications\, prone and bench. Bench will include offhand\, supported – standing with a shooting stick\, using the cover support like a tree\, sitting\, kneeling\, all other. You do not have to have any special equipment like a “chunk gun”. So basically any gun\, any sights\, any caliber and shoot with us. So if you have a new rifle\, new load\, new anything and want to test it out\, this is a great match for that. \nRemember to bring your favorite 50 yard sight in target for your warmup practice shots. You will be walking some as you change the target each shot and it is 50 out and 50 back a few times. \nGUESTS:\nGuests are always welcome who just want to watch\, learn and meet folks.

We have moved the shoot date up a week rather than the normal 4th Saturday which is the weekend of thanksgiving. We are going with the Saturday before. November 19th. We all feel the holidays are for family and especially thanksgiving so please enjoy the time of the holidays. \nShoot program for November 19th:\nOur shoot will start at 9:00am\, safety brief and shoot program description will be held before 9am. We are having our normal two shooting categories that everyone seems to believe is fair and inclusive for everyone. “unsupported” or off hand as it used to be known as and “supported” or bench to compete in classifications for fairness as we have done in every shoot this year. We do not want to exclude anyone who wants to shoot with us. We have also completed some major range improvements for our shooters convenience and comfort. SUMMARY:Event: Monthly Meet - Three relay with pistol
DESCRIPTION:We will be starting the registration as always with sign beginning at 8.30am on Saturday October 22nd. The course of fire description and safety briefing will start shortly there after with the goal of starting the shoot by 9:00am. There will be of course the usual cast of characters running around to distract and entertain you. They will even help you out if you need a hand with anything from dry-balls to fail to fires and many other surprising issues as we seem to each month. \nWe are having our two shooting categories\, off hand and bench to compete in classifications for fairness. We do not want to exclude anyone who wants to shoot with us but we will not compete against centerfire or scopes to be fair. Heck bring your gun to work on and shoot. You do not have to shoot for score\, just come and enjoy the day with fellow BP shooters. \nWe will be shooting two relays\, 10 shots each\, patch and roundball\, any caliber in these two shooting classifications. The classifications will not compete against each other for prizes. We will be having our optional relay for handguns as well. \nFirst Relay:\nThe Program Committee has come up with a way to extend the range and get an additional 40% more yards to shoot! They are tired from all physical exertion to make this happen for you all. So 10 shots at 70 yards! we will be shooting steel hangers and swingers. So we need to aim a lot smaller and miss smaller even more as they are a long ways away now. The Program Committee is still deciding whether to be really cruel and use the smallest targets they can find like popsicle sticks\, blow pops\, suckers or playing cards or just use some other ones that the shooter might actually be able to see. Most likely go with something you might be able to see. \nSecond Relay:\n10 shots at 25 yards\, a running deer hunting target for points. It is a tough bugger of a target so be ready to aim small miss small and dream of a good shot in the woods this fall. \nBoth relays will be added together for placement within your appropriate shooting category off hand or bench-rest for ranking of results. \nThird Relay:\nWe are having a third relay with handguns. So bring your single shot or cap and ball revolvers. We will have two categories\, both off hand. Single shot will shoot 3 shots each at two bullseye targets and cap and ball will shoot 5 shots at two bullseye targets for score. They will be the same targets but will not compete against each other for score. This relay is optional and will be a stand alone score for handguns only. \nFirst shot determines your scoring category. No changing your mind after first shot. So pick either offhand or bench. \n* So start time: 9:00am\n* 20 shots total\n* Patch and roundball\n* Third relay\, pistols-single shot and CB revolvers \nGuests are always welcome who just want to watch\, learn and meet folks.
