We started with 21 participants who came to shoot and brave the elements of heat, humidity, sun and wind. Sultry! The day was sultry. Friday night’s nasty storms did not stop these shooters or frighten them off to not attempt shooting. Nor did it deter our dozen guests and observers. But alas it was not to be. With four rifle casualties only 17 finished our course of fire of twenty shots.

Our day was virtually perfect weather for shooting with 21 shooters – 10 offhand and 11 bench – we started at 8:55am and 17 finished shooting at 11:05am. Range was cleaned up, prizes awarded, and the last person left at 12:05pm like we were never there – Ninja Pirates!

We had a new shooter join us and two return from faraway lands where they had stories of travels and adventures for the past year or so. We are roughly halfway through our shooting season and the nagging injuries like knee replacements, strained shoulders and leg muscles, stubborn attitudes and broken locks, other surgeries for family members and the list goes on for our shooter’s participation is building up on our injured shooters absentee listing. To all who could not make it our thoughts are with you and hope things are healing up, and we won’t let you forget to divvy that plunder when you return.

Our shoot consisted of 20 shots – 10 at 25 yards and 10 at 50 yards. We shot the standard six bull NMLRA target with two shots per scoring bull and the practice bull at 25 yards. The 50-yard target was the NMLRA 100-yard target with three bullseyes with the top target being a practice target so five shots each at the two scoring bullseyes.

We had just a few issues this shoot however. You know the kind like lock failures, loose sights, stuck patches, swollen stocks and issues with the powder from the humidity. You know the normal excuses all shooters use to justify their scores. Scores were added together and shooters ranked, weighed and measured – some were found lacking. Each category, off hand and bench were scored independently for fairness.

The shooting results are as follows:
Off hand Results
1st – Erik Rolle
2nd – Bobbie Witherington
3rd – Brad Thomas
4th – William Van
5th – Tony Corhan
Bench Results
1st – Tim Coleman
2nd – Charlie Russell
3rd – Brian Palmer
4th – Bob Wilson
5th – Doug Crabtree
Congratulations to ALL our shooters.
What are we doing, you may ask, for our next shoot? July is the Blanket Prize Shoot. We’ll be having our monthly shoot early in the morning to beat the heat and have a break from hearing the electric meter hum away as it powers our electric fans and air conditioning to cool us off. At this shoot everyone wins! Not only are you out of the house with friends and family, but you will win a prize from a blanket that everyone shooting brings.

What is a blanket prize? Well everyone who shoots with us is asked to bring a prize to be placed on a blanket for shooters to draw from based on finish. The prize should be something you value at $20 or less and willing to let someone choose as a prize as you may be selecting their prize. Everyone brings a prize, everyone wins a prize. Unique, handmade is always good of course.

Our next shoot is July 26, 2025, and we will begin the check in and setup by 8:00am. That is 0800 for you vets! Thank you all for your support and understanding. Our atmosphere of friendship, fellowship, helpfulness, and rowdiness has made TRBPS so successful.
To all be safe, diligent and healthy till we meet up again.
