July 2026 – Monthly Meet – Blanket Prize

As Friday evening rolled around and dinner hit the table, the skies completely opened up. We picked up a solid two inches of rain over the next hour, capping off a full week of relentless storm threats right leading up to shoot day.
When Saturday morning finally arrived, it brought a fog so thick you couldn’t see 30 yards ahead in Jasper. Driving in, I was convinced we’d be lucky to see 15 shooters total—between the actual rain, the threat of more rain, and driving conditions straight out of a horror movie, it sure seemed like a recipe for a ghost town. Several others thought the exact same thing.
Well, the weather lost that round. We started the day with 28 shooters—10 offhand, 18 bench—even with a few regulars deciding not to brave the fog. As the morning went on, the gloom burned off to reveal clear blue skies, virtually no breeze, and fantastic weather. Three more late-arriving offhand shooters joined in, bringing us to 31 total shooters —a new attendance record! We also had at least 14 visitors tag along to support the line and watch the fun. The weather never threatened us again; in fact, as the sun came up, the main complaint was that it was actually getting a bit warm.
What a day. We wrapped the whole event up by 12:15 PM. Way to go, folks!
We kicked off our safety briefing right at 9:00 AM and had lead going downrange by 9:10 AM. First up was 10 shots on two stacked 100-yard NMLRA bullseye targets set at 50 yards. The line wrapped that round by 10:00 AM right on schedule. Targets were pulled and turned, and we moved on to the NMLRA six-bull target at 25 yards (five for score, two shots each). We blew the final whistle at 11:10 AM.
The range was filled with laughter and friendly banter all morning alongside the steady rhythm of black powder rolling through the valley. Scores were tallied to set the order for the prize table—and thanks to our blanket prize
setup, every single shooter took home something great.

Range Mishaps & The Great Ramrod Mystery
We managed to avoid any dryballs this month, though we had our fair share of cap pops, flashes in the pan, and a few quiet “no-bangs.”
The highlight of the day, however, was a heated dispute over a missing ramrod. The shooter insisted they had been using a wooden ramrod. Naturally, a fellow shooter searched the range, picked up a splinter, and declared, “Well, here’s all that’s left of it!” Shortly after, someone else pulled out a mangled piece of aluminum. The shooter protested that they’d never owned an aluminum rod in their life, but the jury was out, votes were cast, and the mystery aluminum rod was officially claimed as evidence. The verdict? They definitely shot their ramrod—we’re just still debating what material it was made of! The official Arrow Trophy will be awarded and posted next month.
Looking Ahead
A short write-up doesn’t do this day justice, so keep an eye on our website this week. We’ll be posting full photo coverage alongside video highlights hosted on Rumble (a much friendlier platform for firearms content than YouTube). Between the shooting, the crowd, and a gorgeous, nearly 100-year-old 1929 Ford Model A truck towed in for display, it was a day to remember.
