Burnt Mountain Winter Rendezvous – 2024
By John White & Chris Greene
We had a marvelous day with 23 intrepid folks attending, and many came just for the fellowship as they did not even bring a rifle that normally shoot with us. It was a cool windy day, and yet folks came to see how everyone was doing and to simply get out of the house.
Our shooters worked on sighting in guns, worked on new locks and new guns. We fixed the hut door as it sagged a bit. I guess really not we, but rather Tony – thank you Tony. Brad installed two new range-rod brackets for the inevitable dry ball when it happens, and one got used today at no surprise to anyone. We cleaned up the hut interior a bit with a nice fire in the fire ring together to get rid of some of the trash.
We got to see an under-hammer wall gun along with a seven-barrel Nock gun on Victorian style mounted wheel carriages. All in all it was a relaxing day to work on many projects with like-minded folks, enthusiasts, vagabonds, rogues, scoundrels and hooligans – our kind of people. We had many visitors come too, and learn about our guns and we even had a couple of new shooters. Welcome, Jim and John.
We unveiled a tribute remembrance plaque made by Beaver Fisher that we hope we never add another name to. These individuals have always been there to support our efforts and provide guidance and ideas for our club. They are a part of the first ten members of the Talking Rock Black Powder Shooters and signers of our charter club application.
So, to all our members, families, friends, and random hapless wanderers, please enjoy this Happy Holiday season. Stay warm and healthy until our next gathering on January 25, 2025, where we will do more of the same. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
