The weatherman said we’d be in the mid-80s with nice, sunny skies. So naturally, we were greeted with a wind chill in the mid-20s when we started out. Not sure where that came from, but it definitely woke everyone up.

Accessories

The good news is it warmed up nicely by the second rotation. Jackets started coming off—right around the time folks were asking if anyone had extras to spare. The hot coffee helped take the edge off the morning chill. Thank you, Michael.

Brad’s Smoke

We began our safety brief and course-of-fire description right around 9:00 a.m., with little to no wind. Nice! We had 21 shooters: two new participants, a couple of second-timers, and nine admin folks. During the shoot, we also had five visitors stop by to see what we’re all about. One joined as a member of TRBPS, and all said they liked what they saw—atmosphere, variety of guns, variety of targets, and the overall experience. A strong showing, especially with several of our regulars up in Pall Mall, Tennessee, attending the York Over the Log Shoot.

Our program consisted of 14 bench shooters and 7 offhand shooters. Bench shooters took on a “crazy crow” target at 50 yards, while offhand shooters tackled the 100-yard running buffalo (set at 50 yards). The program committee showed some kindness to the offhand group with the larger target—much appreciated by the eyes. After 10 shots, we switched to the NMLRA six-bull target, with a bonus Easter rabbit target for two additional shots, bringing the total to 12. Altogether, shooters fired 22 shots for a possible 220 points.

Our results are as follows

Bench:
1st – Steve Boettcher
2nd – Charlie Russell
3rd – Tie: Jim Bob Hartlage and Tim Coleman
4th – David Aarmstrong
5th – Tim Lambert

Off Hand:
1st – Billy Townsend
2nd – Erik Rolle
3rd – Tony Corhan
4th – Dan Pressley
5th– Scott Youngblood

Not to jinx the group, but while we had the usual cap pops and flint flashes, there were no dry balls—always a win. We did, however, have one honest admission of patch pulling. We’ll call that character-building. Congratulations to all our shooters on a job well done.

Muzzle of the Month

The Trade Table continues to be a success. Sales and trades are happening regularly, and it draws a good crowd—not just for deals, but for conversation. It’s become a great place to gather while we’re setting up the course of fire and throughout the shoot. A nice addition to the overall atmosphere.

Erik’s Smoke

Many shooters noticed their feet weren’t nearly as sore this time around. Our parent club, PCSC, invested in a topcoat for the gravel—crusher run—which settles into the existing surface and creates an almost concrete-like finish. Very, very nice. Thank you to them for that improvement.

Powder Scorching

In return, a TRBPS member purchased several replacement boards for the picnic tables, which were installed while we waited for score results. Thank you, Sam, for providing the boards, and Doug for helping get them installed. We truly have a great partnership with our parent club—we help each other out often, and it shows.

Take care, everyone. Be safe and stay healthy, and we’ll see you all for another fun gathering on April 25th. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. start.
