We moved our shoot from the Memorial Day weekend to this Saturday, and it appears to have been a very successful decision. No rain like last Saturday and everyone got a three-day weekend with family. Saturday’s shoot started with about 54-degree cool weather and ended up at about 70 degrees with blue skies and slight breeze. Almost perfect shooting weather and our attendance showed it.

A new attendance record for number of shooters – 30 shooters, 18 bench and 12 offhand with 10 guests, administrators and the like for 40 folks attending. We had shooters returning from the injured reserves along with two new shooters and several new joining members of TRBPS. Welcome back and glad you all are on the mend.

Now with this new record our attendees were all in shock it seems. Our range and loading tables have a capacity of about 30-35 shooters and normal these days is about 20-22 shooters. Folks get comfortable bringing their lounge chairs, Milos sweet tea jugs, extra bags for their Ballistol sunscreen and everyone had to make some space adjustments to accommodate all our shooters. Patience along with friendship and fellowship has made TRBPS successful so thank you all for handling and helping our new and rookie shooters. It worked itself out during the first relay and everyone settled in it seemed for a good day.

We shot 10 round-balls at the NMLRA six-bull target at 25 yards and changed it up just a bit as everyone shot the same distance to try and avoid shooting each other’s targets. Failed just a bit. At least three had extra holes and one had four in it. Makes it tough on the score keeper shooters and it should not happen as it penalizes the shooter if we cannot figure out which is which.

We then moved our target bases out to 50 yards and shot a Running Fox target with 10 round-balls. Some of the foxes got to keep running as they never took a hit and some – well, let’s just say the fur was flying. Both targets were added together, shooters ranked, and several said, ‘geez with this score glad it was a fun shoot for me’ and kept their targets as souvenirs!

The results are as follows for our shoot:

Off-hand:
1st – Jim Gravely
2nd – Billy Townsend
3rd – Chris Greene
4th – Jared Breedlove (first time brand new shooter, young eyes as well!)
5th – Erik Rolle

Bench:
1st – Steve Boeticher
2nd – Charlie Russel
3rd – David Armstrong
4th – Jonathon Burgess
5th – Bobbie Witherington

Congratulations to all our shooters and thank you for making TRBPS what it is. We had our normal popping caps, fail to fire, dull flints but seriously a dry-ball with no ball? Patch only? What is that called? We had one of our sponsor’s attend and supplement our very successful trade table, Deercreek Gun Shop and had another young man, Hudson Jordan, who is a knife maker with Eisenhand Knives, attend to show his wares and make a sale or two. Thank you all for coming. It adds a lot to our shoots to have you with us!

At 25 Yards. NMLRA 6-Bull Target

Our knife and hawk back stop got a LOT of hits today as folks seem to really like the opportunity to throw things – and not in anger. Becky C. added an incredible little item to our atmosphere, what looked like about 10 dozen or more homemade oatmeal cookies. What I do know is not many went back home in that container! Thank you, Becky.

After the shoot as folks sat around in shock, amazement and awe at what we were able to do with 30 shooters and still leave the complex by 12:15pm leaving it as if we had never been there, we discussed how we, TRBPS, seem to be entering a new phase of growth challenges. We for the most part have been very successful at managing our facilities through these last four plus years to accommodate all with little to no disruption and we will continue to manage those challenges. We have several short-term ideas as well as long term solutions that we can implement if we continue to grow and or maintain a regular attendance of 30 or more shooters. Through everyone’s contribution and understanding we will continue as a successful growing fun group to shoot with.

Our next shoot is June 28, 2025 and we will begin the check in and setup by eight am. That is ‘oh-eight-hundred’ for you vets! Thank you all for your support and understanding. Our atmosphere of friendship, fellowship and helpfulness has made TRBPS so successful. No one five years ago when the idea of creating a charter club was discussed envisioned or dreamed of what TRBPS has become today. To all be safe, diligent and healthy till we meet up again.
