Today’s meet experienced weather that was pleasantly hot. Hot – but not ungodly hot. Humidity was reasonable, so we really can’t say it was “sultry”. We had ten shooters and four onlookers, referees, RSOs with significant others watching on too.

We used the official NMLRA 50 yard and 100 yard targets but placed at half those distances on the range. Shot placement varied with scattered results and one or two participants tearing one ragged hole in the paper.

Our videographer, Chris, brought along his cherished Lancaster County Pennsylvania long rifle in .50 caliber, which was built by CLA artisan, Ron Brimer back in 2012. He does not get to participate much, but today he did double-duty as shooter and chronicler.

One of our youth participated, but not for points, bringing his hefty .45 caliber target rifle.

Bobbie’s muzzle flash and smoke during 25 yard competition

Everyone shooting is pretty much an expert with their arms and so we had only one stubborn percussion rifle that refused to go along with the other guns that cooperated with booms, smoke, fire and throwing lead. Sometimes you get an ‘entitled’ little cuss in the bunch. That’s the way it goes.

By now it should be apparent who the Top Guns are in this crowd. It seems the same ones win all the time, which is a testament to their skill, practice, acumen, trade secrets, et cetera.

Our shoot results were:
Off Hand:

1st – Brad Thomas
2nd – Billy Townsend
3rd – Bob Wilson

Bench:
1st – Tim Coleman
2nd – Charlie Russell
3rd – Bobby Witherington

Mike clears the touch hole of his Plains Rifle
If we had such a category, Mike would always take 1st for his epic pan flashes
This fiery smoke plume looks like a rain cloud at sunset – Just look at it!

Tim’s shot produces a cap flash – nice!
Tim takes 1st in Bench category making one ragged hole in the target at 50 yards

Be extra certain to come out on July 22nd for the much anticipated Blanket Prize Shoot. Admission fee is – – a prize anyone of the shooting arts would appreciate. We look forward to seeing you. Enjoy the video below.

  1. Thanks for your usual great job recording our events. I enjoyed getting to see your Brimer rifle. A real beauty made by a great Ga. craftsman.
