Today was one of those days. Rained overnight. For many when you woke up to come over, it was raining where you live and it created that notion, ‘do I really want to try and shoot in the rain or stay home with a nice hot cup of coffee’. Well folks we got the shoot in, it only misted on us for maybe 20 minutes of our 3 hours on the range. Got rained on pretty good going home—but we got the shoot in. Fifteen shooters, 5 off hand 10 bench, 6 admin helpers, 2 visitors from Gainesville, 1 new shooter in spite of the rain, 1 banjo playing-pistol shooter, and our 3 Deercreek Gun Shop brothers. Pretty good crowd for the weather outlook I would say.

We got down to shootin’ business at a few minutes before 9:00am with our safety brief and on to the NMLRA Bottle Target at 50 yards. Two shots each bottle, 12 total. The grumbling started, “we normally shoot those at 25 yards, can’t see the bottle neck, gonna rain soon it looks like, got flint problems with this moisture in the air” and the grumbling got a bit more. No rain, one shot a ramrod and the targets were gathered and we had the shooters exchange targets and score each other’s target to help out the scorer. It worked.

At about 10 we moved on to our 25 yard target and oh, did the laughter begin as well as deeper more intense grumbling. After last months futile efforts to hit the broad side of a barn, the Program Manager decided to help the shooters and allow them to see if they could shoot some fish in a barrel. Wow, even the Program Manager said it was most likely the toughest target shot ever in TRBPS history. This combination of targets generated the lowest score totals in memory. So with all the playful grumbling by the shooters the Program Manager said if you ain’t grumbling I ain’t happy and man am I happy today even with the rain.

Our results are as follows
Off hand:
1st – Billy T.
2nd – Tony C.
3rd – James W.
4th – Chris G.
5th – Payne P.
Bench:
1st – Charlie R.
2nd – Steve B.
3rd – Tim Coleman
4th – Bill D.
5th – Tim Dougherty
6th – Robbie H.
So our shoot had our normal flashes in the pan, caps popping and had our first stuck but shot out ramrod and NO dry balls!

Our prizes were awarded and off we went in the rain headed home to enjoy the three-day weekend to remember those that sacrificed all so we may enjoy our hobbies with friends and families that are dear to us.

Unfortunately, upon doing a postmortem of our shoot, an error in placement of our shooter ranks based on their score was identified. This will be recognized and corrections made next month. We apologize for this error.

The link below is to a short video of a young man who comes by to sell his wares at our shoots periodically. He added something special to our shoot yesterday. Thank you, Deercreek Gun Shop for the video:
